Online manual

Position the IBO on the bed.

The flexibel end of the IBO must be positioned onto the operating table

Position the patient on the IBO in supine position.

Assure full trunk (thorax and abdomen) is on the IBO

Spread the arms of the patient.

Apply cushions on the patient using the skeleton (rib rack and pelvic crest) as reference:

  • Apply the thoracic cushion onto the rib cage of the patient.
The round extension of the ‘body contact sheet’ (tape) should be aligned with the metasternum. The thoracic part should not extend below the lowest ribs or above the clavicula.
  • Apply the pelvic cushion onto the pelvis of the patient. The ‘arrow tape’ should be in the middle of the pubic bone and pointing cephalad.
The pelvic part should not extend over the groin.

Apply the side tape tightly to the patients body

Arrange the tube and valve as illustrated to one side of the bed.
Put the arm of the patient over the tubing.

Cross the ankles of the patient over each other.

One person is positioned at the head and one at the feet of the patient.

A third person inflates the IBO using the Hummingbird. Hold the valve of the IBO with one hand while pushing the HMB against it with the other hand.

Inflating the IBO puts the patient into lateral position.

Inflation of the IBO stops automatically when fully inflated and the overpressure valves will open.

The patient can be rolled gently into prone position.

Hang the IBO on a hook, it will deflate automatically within less than 30 minutes.

Put the arms of the patient onto the arm supports and release the side tapes.

Inflate now the IPS cushions using the Ergotrics Hummingbird. Hold the IPS valve with one hand while pushing the HMB against it with the other. Take care not to cover the holes of the IPS.

Inflating the IPS cushions brings the patient’s body into the ideal prone position with free-hanging abdomen.

    1. Inflate first the thoracic cushion using the Ergotrics Hummingbird and close the pinch clamp.
Stop inflation of the IPS when the overpressure valves open.
    2. Inflate the pelvic cushion using the Ergotrics Hummingbird and close the pinch clamp.
Stop inflation of the IPS when the overpressure valves open.

AFTER SURGERY: return patient in supine position and remove the cushions.
Cut the inflation tubes to deflate the cushions. The IPS is a disposable inflatable positioning cushion.
