Medtech start-up Ergotrics raises € 1 milion in first financing round
Turnhout/Antwerp – Ergotrics, the Belgian Medtech company specializing in the positioning and moving of patients using compressed air, has successfully concluded a financing round of € 1 million. The investment will support sales in the Benelux, the expansion into other markets, and the development of new innovations.
Ergotrics, founded by neurosurgeon Dr. Paul Depauw, has experienced an acceleration in growth since the appointment of Inge Bruynooghe, formerly a Vice President at Philips. The company in June 2019 launched its suite of inflatable supports to tilt and position patients with compressed air. The Ergotrics approach is faster, easier, more ergonomic, more hygienic and safer than existing procedures.
Thanks to the successful certification and launch, the company has today concluded a financing round in order to realize its European ambitions and to support the development of new innovations. “We are honored with this external recognition for the company,” says Inge Bruynooghe, CEO of Ergotrics. “We look forward to continu our mission to improve the working conditions and efficiency of healthcare workers with innovations based on compressed air that bring better and more hygienic care to patients.”
A revolution for prone surgery
The Ergotrics innovation is patented and developed on the basis of thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology and physics. The inflatable prone supports are applied to the patient in the supine position and inflated after tilting. Dr Paul Depauw, founder and inventor, explains: “This is a revolution for prone surgery. It allows surgical teams to tilt patients safely and easily, which makes a world of difference to the workload and ergonomics of the staff in the operating room. As our technology facilitates a more optimal positioning, we also think that there will be less venous congestion, less blood loss and a clearer picture of the operating area. We are currently investigating this in detail.”
Expansion and development
Neurosurgeons, orthopedists and plastic surgeons operate more than 500,000 patients in prone position per year in Europe. Currently, the first Ergotrics products for patients up to 120kg are on the market in the Netherlands and Belgium. At the same time, a network of distributors in Germany and Scandinavia is set up, and discussions in Australia and France are started. The current portfolio will also be expanded with products for patients over 120kg, for the growing obesity market. This is seen as a prerequisite for conquering North America.
“Several doctors and patients have already contacted us about other applications of our innovative technology. Supported by the external financing we just received, we can further innovate for hospitals and also improve the ergonomics of work in the home care sector. ” explains Inge Bruynooghe, CEO of Ergotrics.
