Miniwedge & Wedgeroll
The wedge that can vary in height to fit every moment in your procedure

The inflatable wedge for stable tilting of pelvic or shoulder

Proper positioning of the patient provides optimal access to the surgical or medical procedure site.

The (Mini)Wedge(roll) is an inflatable wedge-shaped cushion that is placed under the patient on the operating table (or any other supporting surface). When the patient needs (re)positioning, the (Mini)Wedge(roll) is partially or fully inflated using compressed air, which will lift the patient in the desired position.

Because of the additional flap on the (Mini)Wedge(roll), the inflatable will not slide away when inflated and positioned on the side of the patient. Thanks to the wedge shape and easy deflation/inflation valve, the (Mini)Wedge(roll) provides optimal positioning for a wide range of applications, such as ERCP, pelvic tilt, shoulder tilt, lung transplants, etc.

Applications (some examples)

During intubation, it is sometimes difficult to insert the tube into the trachea, for example when the patient has a high BMI. A short neck, small mandible, small mouth opening and poorly mobile neck can also be reasons why intubation is difficult. In these case, it is desirable to obtain the optimal intubation position for each patient, but every patient is different and unique. With the Operol, the ideal position can be set for each patient: you can simply inflate or gently deflate the cushion.

Patient positioning plays an important role in all surgical procedures. In thoracic surgeries, the patient is positioned in the lateral position with the arm extended above the head. To bring the thoracic surgical side forward, the Wedgeroll can be placed under the patient’s thorax, distal to the axillary fold, at the level of the seventh to the ninth rib.

During pregnancy and in some gynecological procedures, the pelvis needs to be lifted. By placing the mini-wedge underneath the pelvis, it can be tilted to the desired position, helping reduce back and pelvic pain among pregnant women.

In supine hypotension, the uterus compresses the inferior vena cava when a pregnant woman is in a supine position. Symptoms include pallor, dizziness, low blood pressure, sweating, nausea, and an increased heart rate. Treatment is simple; the pregnant woman should be moved into the left lateral position, and the symptoms will resolve rapidly. By placing the Mini-Wedge on the right side and inflating the cushion, the woman will be moved into a comfortable left lateral position.

As an alternative to placing pillows under the pelvis and lower legs, our team came up with the idea of working with a cylindrical pillow that lies under the alternate mattress, which you can inflate with compressed air

Interposition graft for popliteal aneurysm is favorable in prone position. The Inflatable Prone Support (IPS) and Inflatable Board (IBO) make proning and the prone position possible even for patients with high BMI and large abdominal circumference. Using compressed air offers a big ergonomic advantage! Ergonomics are important for medical and supporting staff!

We can now easily reposition the patient alone. Before we needed two, sometimes three nurses.  The advantage of the Morphemat for the patient? Its back is supported from neck to legs and not at two points.  See our video testimonial
